It can be stressful deciding what to do in the school holidays, so we’ve created a guide on the best family attractions & activities near our hotels & inns! From historic English Heritage sites like Rievaulx Abbey, to fun-filled days out at Peppa Pig world, all of these attractions are located close to our stunning properties, so you’ve got the perfect base to make memories with the whole family. Our restaurants are the ideal place to dine too, and at selected sites, KIDS EAT FREE with any full price adult main, sandwich or brunch dish!

The Castle Hotel, Conwy, North Wales

If you’re looking to visit Conwy, then you just have to visit Conwy Castle! Built in the late 1200s, Conwy Castle played an important role in multiple wars. For tickets and prices, click here to find out more.

Distance: 5 minutes on foot.

Are your kids the adventurous type? Need to let them burn off some energy? Why not visit Zip World? Don’t even worry about the weather, it’s all indoors! The Feathers Hotel, Helmsley, North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire is known for it’s agriculture, and picturesque market towns & villages. Helmsley is no exception. We’d highly recommend visiting the historic Helmsley Castle, which is conveniently located a short walk from The Feathers Hotel. you can book your tickets online here via the English Heritage website.

Distance: 5 minutes on foot.

Another fantastic English Heritage site in Helmsley, is Rievaulx Abbey. Explore the tranquil ruins of this once powerful Cistercian Monestary, and learn more about it’s past. You can even relax and enjoy their Tea Room! Click here for more info on tickets & pricing. Distance: 5 minutes by car.

Entry for both these English Heritage sites are free if you are an English Heritage member, and up to 6 kids go free with an accompanying adult!

The Old Bridge Inn, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire

Whistlestop Valley is an adventure filled day out for the kids, and is home to Kirklees Light Railway! You can ride a real steam train, play crazy golf, and even ride go carts! There’s even two eateries for you to grab a bite to eat at lunch! Click here for ticket & pricing info.

Distance: 20 minutes by car.

If you want something completely different, then Pigs In The Wood is a non-profit animal sanctuary for pigs and other animals. Have a stroll around the wood, where pigs roam free, and you & the kids can get up, close & personal with these playful piggies! There’s even a cafe for refreshments, and a gift shop. You can book online here, entry for kids under 2 are free, whilst for all other ages, there is a recommended donation of £6.

The Talbot Hotel, Malton, North Yorkshire

Fancy a thrilling day out at a theme park? Maybe a zoo? How about both? Flamingo Land is a popular resort in North Yorkshire, with plenty of thrilling rides, fun rides for younger kids, as well as a zoo that’s home to mammals, farm animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians & fish! You don’t need to leave Malton to have a fun-filled day out, Malton is known as ‘Yorkshire’s Foodie Capital’! Why not have a stroll around Malton and enjoy some of the regions best food & drink producers at The Talbot Yard? The Golden Fleece, Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Thirsk is another one of our beautiful North Yorkshire market town locations. If you’re visiting with the family, then we’d recommend The World of James Herriot as a great family activity! If you’re looking for something a bit more outdoorsy, and active, yet still fun, then why not take an Alpaca Walk? That’s right, you can walk alpaca’s in Yorkshire!
